Addiction and consumption patterns
Coordinator: Dr Damien Scliffet (CHU Lille)
The value of a working group dedicated to nitrous oxide addiction and consumption patterns lies in the need to address the growing problems associated with the abuse of this substance, often wrongly perceived as harmless.
Nitrous oxide, used recreationally, can be addictive and dangerous, with significant risks to physical and mental health.
The main tasks of this working group are manifold:
Conduct in-depth research to document addictive behaviors and patterns of nitrous oxide consumption. This research will include the study of risk factors, user profiles, and the long-term consequences of consumption.
Develop and standardize diagnostic protocols for identifying nitrous oxide addiction. These protocols will help healthcare professionals to detect signs of addiction early and intervene appropriately.
Train healthcare professionals on new diagnostic protocols and best practices for the management of patients suffering from nitrous oxide addiction.
The working group will also focus on raising awareness among the public and healthcare professionals of the dangers of recreational nitrous oxide use and its addictive effects.
Develop clinical guidelines for the treatment of nitrous oxide addiction.
These recommendations will include therapeutic approaches, psychological interventions and rehabilitation strategies to help patients overcome their addiction.
Encourage collaboration between different specialists, including psychiatrists, psychologists, general practitioners and social workers, for a multidisciplinary approach to managing nitrous oxide addiction.
Develop and implement prevention and risk reduction programs aimed at informing young people and potential users of the dangers associated with the recreational use of nitrous oxide.
These programs will include educational campaigns, school-based interventions and support resources for those seeking to quit.
By fulfilling these missions, the working group will make a significant contribution to improving patient care, reducing the risks associated with nitrous oxide consumption, and promoting safer, better-informed public health.
